In spite of several technical and training initiatives, Asia’s 39,000 miles of coastline still remain vulnerable to internal and external security threats. Questions over South China Sea and increased piracy attacks continue to affect investment and capability development decisions within Asia Pacific’s naval forces.
Whilst there have been constant technical upgrades, several challenges remain. These include;
- Changing piracy and trafficking tactics and procedures
- Stagnant legal policies and processes
- Evolving platform vs payload requirements
All these questions and more will be addressed at this year’s Coastal Surveillance conference. It’s the time of the year again for Asia’s maritime community to gather in Singapore to talk, debate and find solutions for issues that keep them awake at night. Some of the featured sessions this year from new agencies include:
- Maritime Information System Integration for Anti-Maritime Crime
Mark Su, Section Chief – Security, TAIWAN COAST GUARD
- Current Efforts Towards a Inter Agency Information Exchange: Learning from Best Practices
Captain Jose Bausua, Chief, Integration Office, NATO
From 29 – 30 November 2011, Coastal Surveillance will host Asia Pacific’s thought leaders of security and operational excellence in the maritime sector in Singapore. Join us on this forum to engage in a key industry dialogue that goes beyond coffee t able discussions.
