Military Vision Systems – Using Enhanced Visual Acuity to Control the Battlespace

New missions and operating environments are driving the U. S. military to develop innovative technical solutions to improve situational awareness, whether operating in the air or on the ground, at night or in other degraded visual environments. Part of the solution is to be able to “see” the battlespace better than the opponent. To this end, important advances have been made in the sensors, cameras, display, processing, and other technical capabilities needed for the next-generation of vision systems. However, challenges in operator information overload, SWaP balancing, and platform integration remain, and we must ensure that we incorporate the lessons being learned in current operational experiences.

This outstanding conference brings together the key organizations that are shaping the requirements and capabilities of future vision systems.

  • What is the status of OSD and Service plans, needs and initiatives for future vision systems?
  • What are the unique challenges and potential solutions in night operations?
  • What solutions are on the drawing board for dealing with helicopter brownout?
  • What are the latest advances in soldier enhanced vision? Tactical vehicle vision? Pilot assisted vision? Head up displays? Helmet mounted cueing systems?
  • What roles will synthetic vision systems play?

These and many other critical questions will be examined during this important two-day event.
