Cyber Security: A Key Priority for the Indian Armed Forces

Today, no single service can work in isolation. Cyber-warfare and threats to cyber-security are fast becoming the next generation of threats. We need to make our cyber systems as secure and as non-porous as possible
A. K. Anthony, Minister of Defence, Republic of India

Throughout the world militaries and governments are naming the advancement of Cyber Defences as their key priority. With a population of over 1 billion and a critical ICT infrastructure which act as a centre point for the world's communication transmissions, India is at the heart the Cyber Security threat.

In line with these threats the Integrated Defence Staff has put it upon itself to hold a conference which will look right to the heart of this matter, and discuss the international strategies re shaping the Cyber Security landscape and the Indian strategies which are just about to do so. At the heart of discussion is the movement by international militaries to fully integrated and secure C4I2 infrastructures and the ever accelerating development of Information Security technologies.

Facing the challenges which link all modern military forces, Cyber Security India is designed to consider the methods required to create interoperable systems capable of ensuring secure coordination and application of cyber defence across national and international military services. Held over 2 days it will cover such key topics as:

  • Indian, US & NATO Cyber Strategies and Priorities
  • Centralising Cyber Command Capabilities
  • Strengthening Inter-Service Jointness
  • Multi-Lateral Procurement and Integration Strategies
  • Ensuring predictive INFOSEC capabilities

With systems and structures that generate some of the most advanced cyber defence capabilities in and beyond the Pacific region, the Indian Armed Forces are perfectly positioned to engage in real discussion on the future of cyber defence capabilities and the key requirements to safeguard the future of those systems. Moreover, by providing the international community with the opportunity to share and discuss opinions and studies on cyber defence, the Integrated Defence Staff have provided a forum which will in turn influence the future development and integration of its own military cyber defence capabilities.
