Past event: Seaport Security Africa Conference

Developing enhanced seaport security strategies to prevent security threats

With continued piracy, trafficking, smuggling and global threats of terrorism, the security of Africa’s ports remains of utmost importance.

Recent developments in some of Africa’s ports have stressed the need for increased advances in technologies, strategies and control of seaport security. There have been progressive inroads made in the areas of development and upgrading, but there is still plenty needed to improve Africa’s ports’ security.

There are currently, though, major port development projects in the West, East and Southern African regions. Transnet Port Authority will spend $ 4,6 billion modernizing its Durban port over the next five years, while the Mombasa Port just invested $ 21.4 million to upgrade its security.

In it’s second year, Seaport Security Africa continues to put forward effective port security strategies and best practice, coupled with highly recommended interactive workshops and networking sessions.

This year, delegates at 2nd Seaport Security Africa 2011 will :

  • Assess the most current security threats to maintain and increase levels of awareness and alertness
  • Get exposed to the latest technologies available for seaport security to keep security strategies up to date
  • Hear updates on the ISPS code to remain compliant

Unlock best practise strategies from the following Sub Saharan leaders:

  • Captain G.L Mokiwa, Assistant Port Manager: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania Port Authority
  • Nico du Plessis, Chief Security Officer, Transnet Port Terminals
  • Jabulani Moleya, National Head of Security, Transnet Port Authority
  • Nelson Thembinkosi Masophi, Port Security Manager, Transnet Port Authority
  • Professor Henri Fouche, Professor Extraordinarius: Department of Police Practice, University of South Africa
