Past event: Engine MRO Forum

Cost-Effective Engine MRO

Engine maintenance is the largest segment of total MRO spend at 35%. It is the biggest cost driver for operators with forecasts predicting that engine MRO requirements are only going to increase over the next decade.

Airlines are faced with an increasingly difficult challenge to develop a strategy that leads to effective maintenance planning and cost reduction.  This forum will identify and advise on the criteria to be evaluated and understood when selecting your service provider and planning maintenance schedules and budgets for engine MRO.

  • Focus on how to reduce engine removals, optimize workscopes and reduce shop visit costs.
  • Develop practices for “repairing rather than replacing” in order to increase on wing time and defer cost of expensive parts until absolute limit.
  • Look at ‘future’ engine designs such as geared turbofan vs open rotor, and gain a more complete understanding of the impact of the use of engine washing.
  • Learn to work with your lessor or MRO to ensure you have full coverage for spare engine availability in the repair rather than replace strategy
  • Understand co-operations vs competition – what does the increase in joint ventures, partnerships and alliances between OEM’s and MRO’s mean for operators and independent repair organizations?
  • Gain best practices and advice for airlines in negotiation and re-negotiation of engine MRO contracts- how to select your provider and get the best deal for your company.
  • Importance of ‘Lean’ principles in engine MRO – decrease cycle time, increase productivity and improve quality and reliability.
