Exclusive Site Visit

We would like to invite you to join us for exclusive tour as we go to visit the UPM Lappeenranta Biorefinery - The world's first commercial scale wood-based biorefinery in Lappeenranta, Finland, on the 31st of January 2017.

On Tuesday, 31st of January 2017, a limited group of Lignofuels 2017 Conference delegates will a have unique opportunity to visit the world's first commercial scale wood-based biorefinery in Lappeenranta, Finland. There is no extra charge to join the site visit, although places are limited and allocated on first come first served basis.

UPM Biofuels has innovated and developed a production process to transform a wood-based residue of their own pulp production into a unique advanced biofuel that can be used in any diesel engine without modification. UPM BioVerno provides a unique high quality renewable diesel reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% compared to fossil diesel and reduces tailpipe emissions significantly. The first in the world commercial scale wood-based biorefinery located in Lappeenranta, Finland, started commercial production in January 2015 with an annual production capacity of 100.000 metric tons - or 120 million litres - of renewable diesel. UPM's EUR 179 million investment was completed without public investment grants.
