2 Exclusive Site Visits: BTG-BTL Empyro Pyrolysis Plant & Bioprocess Pilot Facility (BPF)

In the afternoon of the day prior the conference, limited number of conference delegates will receive a unique opportunity to visit BTG-BTL Empyro Pyrolysis Plant and Bioprocess Pilot Facility (BPF).

Tour I. BTG-BTL Empyro Pyrolysis Plant

In January 2014 Empyro BV has started construction of its pyrolysis oil production facility in Hengelo, the Netherlands. Start-up of the installation has commenced early 2015 and production is gradually being increased.

In the Empyro project the fast pyrolysis technology has been further enhanced and the installation and supply chain will be a reference case for potential customers. The supply of biomass has been organized locally with a specialized partner. Part of the demo character of the plant is that in a later stage various types of feedstock will be tested.

Tour II. Bioprocess Pilot Facility (BPF)

BPF is a unique and flexible piloting facility, designed to adjust to and serve the specific needs of clients in the bio-based industries. The BPF team is led by experienced technology, operations and business development professionals with extensive industrial backgrounds and expertise in bioprocess piloting.

BPF services cover the whole value chain, enabling clients from different market segments to test how production processes respond to both scale-up and scale-down:
The bench scale and pilot pre-treatment units allow for the breakdown of different types of biomass, including agricultural, forest or waste residue feedstock, into fermentable sugars. Hydrolysis vessels enable enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulosic fractions.
The Fermentation Pilot Plant processes sugars into bio-based intermediates using biological fermentation, while the downstream processing (DSP) module extracts and refines end products such as biofuels, biochemicals, foods and pharmaceuticals.

The BPF plant has a separate Food Grade area dedicated to food testing. Built according to the Food Regulations and Standards (FSSC 22000/HACCP), the area allows personnel to process products while adhering to strict food safety protocols.

There is no extra charge to attend the site visits, but spaces are strictly limited and allocated to conference delegates on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is highly recommended to book early to guarantee availability.
