Site Tour

Chevron's state-of-the-art Group II base oil plant at the Pascagoula refinery is the newest Group II base oil plant in the United States.  It was designed to produce base oils with exactly the same specs as the two other refineries producing Chevron base oils in Richmond, California and Yeosu, S. Korea.

The Pascagoula Base Oil Plant, PBOP, has the capacity to produce approximately 25,000 barrels per day of Group II premium base oil for use in formulating high-performance lubricants for cars, trucks and heavy-duty equipment, as well as a broad range of industrial applications.

The plant uses Chevron's ISODEWAXING technology, which was commercialized in 1993.  One of the key benefits of this technology is the ability to produce base stocks with properties approaching those of a synthetic base oil from a broad range of feedstocks.  More than half of the world's premium base oil is manufactured with this technology.

To accommodate the distribution needs of the new base oil plant, the refinery added 16 new tanks, 2 new marine berths and new railcar loading facilities. Pascagoula is one of the leading refineries in the United States.
