Delivering Total Surveillance of African Maritime Domains

Welcome Message from the Chief of the naval staff of the Ghana Navy Coastal and Maritime Surveillance Africa Conference and Defense Exhibition 2014

The importance of the oil and gas industry and the strategic maritime environment of the Gulf of Guinea cannot be overemphasized. The enormous size, diversity and complexity of the maritime environment present daunting challenges regarding its protection and management.

The Gulf of Guinea region has in recent times been plagued with increasing incidences of piracy, armed robbery at sea and oil theft among others. The impact of these nefarious activities has ramifications which extend beyond the shares of Africa. The situation has resulted in heightened maritime security concerns of the region.

It is believed that the enhancement and effective utilization of surveillance capabilities across nation in the region will aid in combating the incident of illicit use of the maritime environment thereby increasing operational capability of the region and restore tolerable levels of maritime security.
