Past event: Armoured Vehicles Northern Europe Conference

The European armoured vehicles market will lead the world in terms of demand in the next 10 years and the region will account for approximately a third of the global requirement.

Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark- the traditional ‘Nordic’ nation states- are numerous users of armoured vehicles and the inaugural Armoured Vehicles Nordic 2012 conference brought discussion of the big four’s programmes to the fore. However, by harbouring a broader focus on Northern Europe and the Baltic regions, Armoured Vehicles Northern Europe 2014 examines emerging requirements whilst drawing on the valuable case studies of the larger procurement programmes taking place in Scandinavia.

"The quality of the agenda and the unique opportunity for in-depth discussion and cooperation between the Nordic & International Militaries provides a rare platform to strengthen mechanised capabilities in this advancing region"
Major General (Retired) Roar Haugen, Former Chief of Army Staff, Norwegian Army

The M113 replacement programme trials in Denmark have now ended, and, after a few final interior amendments to the platforms, competitors will enter negotiations for unit cost. But, elsewhere in Europe, much of the attention is focusing on the Polish requirement for tracked and wheeled vehicles. Requests for pinformation are forthcoming and Polish Land Forces armaments experts are currently assessing the marketplace.

Smaller requirements are appearing in the emerging Baltic market with Estonian and Lithuanian defence ministries both exploring new IFV and APC options complete with advanced capability. Latvia are also embarking upon their future mechanization project and exploring second-hand vehicle acquisition. All four of these highlighted organisations will join the Armoured Vehicles Northern Europe conference in 2014 and we look forward to welcoming them.

There are also abundant upgrades of existing armoured vehicles being undertaken or planned across Europe. Here and of paramount importance, European end-users are looking to industry to reduce life-cycle costs and to get the best value out their platforms. We are looking forward to discovering the key deliverables in this competitive space at the conference.
