A Two-Day Classroom Seminar (CPE Approved)

The Title I segment of Title Research in the Private Sector of the Right of Way Industry begins by describing the definition and function of title research. The course covers topics including property ownership, the research process, document interpretation, and preparation of title files. The training includes a “step by step” process for conducting field title research and the documentation of research results in accurate title reports. The material covered in Day 1 of this class is presented in a lecture/discussion format with opportunity for questions and discussion of the topics covered.

The Title II segment of Title Research in the Private Sector of the Right of Way Industry is primarily focused on legal descriptions and deed plotting. Instruction will cover the different types of legal descriptions, reading and understanding legal descriptions from documents, writing legal descriptions for Limited Title Certificates and map-based exercises on locating properties from legal descriptions. Additionally, this segment offers instruction on how to manually plot tracts from field notes description examples, and a section to discuss Due Diligence research and reporting. The material in Day 2 of this class is presented in a lecture/discussion/exercise format that features a number of hands-on exercises involving legal descriptions and deed plotting.

Students will be provided with a Land Measure Compass and an Engineer’s Scale X1 in order to complete the exercises and practical applications.

Your Instructor

Bow Brannon

Bow Brannon is the Director of Title Services at Contract Land Staff (CLS), providing oversight on all CLS title work, with responsibilities including the development and implementation of Procedures and Best Practices for the CLS Title Department. He has over twenty-eight years in the title industry including the ownership and operation of an independent title business providing title research for lenders, Right of Way service providers and others. He has over seven years exclusively in the Right of Way industry.

Bow has extensive knowledge of title research, title review and title curative. He has a noted capability in locating, plotting and proving up ownership of additional tracts of land not designated in county plat records. He is experienced in the review of survey plats and construction estimates, and has a proven aptitude for assisting and providing information relevant to surveyors in the field; civil, archeologist, seismic and biologist. Bow is experienced in management of multiple clients and simultaneous client projects.

Bow is expert in due diligence study and reporting, having led due diligence teams on multiple large scale project studies. He has a proven ability to train new agents in Right of Way and corporate processes and procedures.

Bow has been instructor for title training sessions structured for new agents and project kick-off training for many projects. He has also acted as facilitator for seminars featuring title training for other industry professionals. Bow is currently the Instructor at University of Houston for the Title module of the university’s Right of Way Certificate Program through the UHD College of Business.

Hotel and Seminar Information

This two-day seminar will be held at the hotel listed below. The seminar will start promptly at 8:00 AM and will finish at 4:30 PM on the first day. On the second day, the seminar will resume at 8:00 AM and will finish at 12:00 PM (noon). The program includes continental breakfast, lunch, for day one and a continental breakfast and coffee break for day two. Attendees also receive a professionally produced seminar manual that can serve as a valuable office reference. Dress is casual for all seminars.
