Masterclass Leader

Andrew Morton
Director of Social Engagement, SHRM

In his role as the Director of Social Engagement for the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), Andrew Morton provides strategic leadership and direction in their order to maximize the potential of social media within SHRM’s departments and within more than 570 member-chapters across the country. He provides them with assistance and social media training, and he is a recognized thought leader on the subject of social media strategy.

Prior to joining SHRM in 2014, Andrew served as Account Manager for Purple Strategies, a leading communications firm headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. In this capacity, he managed several Fortune 500 brand and advocacy campaigns.

Previous to that position, Andrew served as Chief of Digital and Social Media for the U.S. Army Reserve, where he was responsible for all Army Reserve digital and social media properties. He was the digital subject matter expert for the 250,000-member Army Reserve organization and its 700+ digital platforms, and he managed online communities in support of the Reserve's communications priorities.

Prior to that, he was Deputy Chief of Marketing and Advertising for the Army Reserve, with responsibility for the development and execution of a multi-million dollar marketing and advertising plan, as well as leading digital and television production. Other positions included Chief of Outreach and Media Relation for the Multi-Nation Force in Iraq and Division Public Affairs Officer, 78th Training Support Division, U.S. Army Reserve. He also served in command positions while deployed with the Army in Egypt, Bosnia, and Macedonia.

Andrew received an MA degree in marketing and military studies from the University of Maryland and a BA degree in political science and English from James Madison University. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
