CONCURRENT SESSIONS

B1 – Cost Efficient Cabin Modifications & Upgrades
Cabin refurbishment is often used as a mechanism to upgrade your fleet without investing in a whole new aircraft. How are fleet developments in the Asian market impacting cabin configurations and upgrade plans? We look at the latest technologies coming to the interiors market and what the main priorities are for operators when going through the modification process. How can airlines ensure they secure attractive solutions but avoid hidden costs? How can MROs cope with the demands of new technology and offer cost efficient services?

B2 – Reducing Fuel Costs
With fuel being one of the biggest burdens on an airline’s budgets, the need to develop a practical strategy to reduce fuel consumption is vital to ensure survival. What technologies and processes are available to assist airlines in becoming more fuel efficient and what savings can be made? How can these initiatives be accurately tracked? What is the potential of new hybrid and bio-fuels? This session examines fuel efficient strategies to make the most of this valuable resource.

Workshop 3 – Composite Repair: Preparing for Demand - Seeking Best Practice
The rise in the utilization of composites in new aircraft programs has intensified the debate over what is needed to repair these aircraft and how maintenance organization should prepare for their arrival. Airlines and MROs are entering the thick of the maintenance reality which will require higher levels of composite and advanced material repair. Yet despite their increased use, no industry consensus has been developed regarding the optimum repair techniques, ideal repair materials or best practices for training. Composite materials present unique challenges to MROs and airlines that require detailed planning and an overhaul of current procedures. This session will look at how MROs and airlines can prepare for these new structures and how the industry can work together to start the process towards standardization of practices.

Key focus areas:

§  Tooling up for composite intensive aircraft – planning and investment challenges

§  Best practices in repair methods and techniques – bolted vs. bonded repairs

§  Repair material – making the right choice and ensuring availability

§  Searching for standardization in repair methods

§  Moderator: Sunny Mirchandani, VP Engineering & International Sales, Taikoo Spirit AeroSystems (Jinjiang) Composite Co. Ltd

§  Hiroki Fukuyama, Assistant Manager, Airframe Group, JAL Engineering Co, .Ltd.

§  Tom Lane, Managing Director, HEATCON Composite Systems (Europe)

Workshop 4 - Optimizing Logistics to Improve Supply Chain and Business Process Integration

Logistics management is the backbone of supply chain, as flow of components and parts are planned, controlled and implemented here. Streamlining logistics is critical to having cost-effective and efficient MRO operations; ensuring parts are available at the right time and place. Finely-tuned logistics systems greatly reduces inventories in warehouses and on shelves. Come hear best practices and creative ideas from key industry delegates on better managing your supply chain by redefining and re-analyzing your logistical processes. Explore and share challenges and opportunities with peers to improve reliability and availability. Topics include identifying business drivers, inventory management, pooling, technology enablers (RFID), manufacturer collaboration with supply chain simplification, and what 4PL means to a complex supply chain.

CONCURRENT SESSIONS

C1 – Aircraft Health Management
One of the main priorities for airlines is to reduce delays, minimize downtimes and avoid unscheduled maintenance episodes. What prognostic and diagnostic tools are available in the marketplace to troubleshoot potential problems? What benefits can a pro-active maintenance strategy bring to operators? This session will look at the latest offerings in health management and trend monitoring and how they can be best exploited to assist operators in their maintenance processes.

§  David Kinney, Associate Technical Fellow, Airline Performance Management, The Boeing Company

C2 - Foreign Repair Stations - Rules and Certifications
It has taken an inordinate amount of time for the U.S. Transportation Security Administration to develop its new security rules for approval and inspections of non-American Repair Stations. The resulting moratorium on opening of new facilities and approvals has seriously hurt MROs in Asia and around the world. This session will discuss the new regulations and how they will work. What countries fit into what tiered scheme and who has approval and certification authority?

§  Jason Dickstein, President, Washington Aviation Group, PC

The MRO Dilemma – Outsourcing vs. In-House Capabilities
Economic pressures and a desire within airlines to focus on core services has meant that the trend to outsource maintenance activities has grown in recent years. However, how do you develop the correct outsourcing strategy to ensure you procure the appropriate services at the right time? Is developing in-house capabilities still a viable option and if so how best can this be executed? In this session we look at the options available to airlines and examine what factors should be taken into consideration when making outsourcing decisions.
