Welcome to OPV Africa

The African continent is increasingly witnessing a progressive surge in offshore activities across the broad spectrum of maritime trade and business. With such great opportunities amidst immense resources, many observers believe this presents incredible and exciting markets for the future.Undoubtedly, many littoral African countries have considerable oil and gas reserves, bountiful fisheries and viable Sea Lanes of Communication. Despite this, we can all agree that maritime insecurity and illegal activities at sea threaten to undermine the great potential of this continent and therefore no time can be spared in discussing and implementing decisive solutions to these our common problems.

Realising the enormous but surmountable maritime security challenges in our collective maritime domains, the Nigerian Navy intends organising a naval conference focusing on the unique maritime security problems facing many African countries in the 21st century. We are proud to welcome you to the inaugural OPV Africa Conference.

This conference is organised by the Nigerian Navy for the benefit of all maritime countries in Africa. The major themes which will be discussed are:

The Conference seeks to gather foremost global experts in maritime security and naval matters to impart their experience and expertise. Participants will be opportuned to hear from senior Chiefs and Flag Officers from African navies. Also, maritime industry key players will display groundbreaking technologies to assist the continent in dealing with maritime security threats.

If you are a serving officer looking to find solutions for operational head-aches, an industry representative with a service or product which could help surmount the problems African navies are facing, or an interested stakeholder seeking to engage with the top decision makers from African navies, then this is a must-attend conference for you.

I look forward to receiving you at OPV Africa in August this year!

Yours sincerely

Emmanuel Ogbor
Rear Admiral
Chief of Policy and Plans
Naval Headquarters Ahuja

Who will attend:

Offshore Patrol Vessels Africa is an official event of the Nigerian Navy with full governmental support. The level of endorsement and participation from the Nigerian authorities is such that this seminal and unique conference will include delegates from the highest echelons of government, tri-services, police and maritime authorities. The scale and participation of this event is unprecedented for the maritime community. Furthermore, oil and gas company executives taking a multi-lateral approach to increasing maritime security through the purchasing of vessels and contracting of private security measures, will also feature heavily.

Aside from Nigeria, there will be a significant contribution and presence from other regional African navies and maritime authorities. Accompanying them are delegations from around the world, people of highly distinguished careers and decision-making authority, representing their own organisations’ interests in increasing maritime security and advising their own solutions to the growing problems that are threatening the exclusive economic zones of Africa.
