Supporting the Future of Mobile Healthcare
Mobile technology is part of the evolution of healthcare for the 21st century. At a time when the mobile phone has become the most quickly adopted consumer technology in the world with over 91% of Americans owning a cell phone, it's obvious where to turn when we think about the future of healthcare. Mobile technology allows for better connectivity between patients and physicians, a more effective means of diagnosing and treating service members and veterans, and an overall increase in healthcare efficiency.
The Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs are invested in advancing mobility. In an era of budget cuts, mobile initiatives have been identified as a necessary area of growth and an area that will prove to be cost efficient in the long run. Both the DoD and VA have outlined mobile technology goals for 2014.
mHealth does come with its challenges. In order for mobile healthcare to function at highest capacity we need to ensure mobile devices and applications are supported by stable network infrastructure. Furthermore, we need to ensure mobile medical applications and mobile devices follow guidelines and standards to ensure they are safe and secure resources for patients and physicians.
DoD/VA mHealth will address all these issues and provide solutions by connecting DoD, VA, and industry professionals from the fields of information technology, medicine, regulation, and policy making. Together these professionals will identify the future of mHealth for the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.
