Site Visit - Enel Green Power
During the afternoon of 26th November 2019, a limited number of conference delegates will receive a unique opportunity to visit: Enel Green Power's world's first biomass plant used to heat geothermal steam at the Cornia 2 geothermal power plant, which is located in Castelnuovo Val di Cecina in Tuscany.
Italy as a whole, & the Tuscany Region in particular, present abundant energy resources due to the particular geological and geothermal conditions of the territory. The new facility was built next to the existing 13-MW Cornia 2 geothermal power plant & is expected to increase the latter's output by more than 30 GWh annually. The newly-installed power station uses virgin forest biomass to heat steam from an initial temperature of 150-160 degrees Celsius to 370-380 degrees Celsius. This boosts net electricity production capacity because of the increased enthalpy of the steam & the improved efficiency of the cycle.
