The Defense Department is the largest single consumer of energy in the United States- its energy bill for utilities and fuel will reach approximately $30 billion this year alone. In the face of today’s budget environment and for the sake of national security, the US military is aggressively seeking to reduce its energy consumption and diversify its power sources.
Further, budget allocations towards renewable energies continue to increase annually as the various branches of the military explore the plethora of available options. Spending for renewables and efficiency upgrades jumped 300% from 2006-2009, an increase from $400 million to $1.2 billion, and current plans project it to rise to $2.3 billion by 2015.
The Future Power Summit focuses on the research, development, and application of new and various power sources in installations and vehicle systems. It covers the integration of solar panel, fuel cell, and hybrid generator technologies into garrisons and forward operating bases. You’ll learn from and mingle with a range of leaders who are deciding the future of military power by setting aggressive energy goals and the engineers who are working hard to build the capabilities to meet these goals.
Now is the time for you tap into this growing field; sustainability, energy independence, green energy, and future technology are joining together to become one conversation. The Defense Department is leading the charge to overhaul their energy portfolio and power consumption – it is now up to industry to prove that they have the solutions that the military needs.
