Why You Should Attend This Symposium:

The 2022 Counter Insider Threat Symposium will focus on the plans, procedures, technologies, essential for identifying, preventing, and protecting against insider risks. Accelerating the implementation of effective insider threat programs and solutions is a main priority for the US Government and private sector. According to the 2022 Cost of Insider Threats Global Report released by the Ponemon Institute, insider threats have increased in frequency and cost over the last years. The report determined InT incidents are up 44% in 2022, the time to contain an InT increased from 77 days to 85 days, negligent insiders accounted for 56% of all InT incidents ($484,931 per incident), and malicious insiders caused 26% of InT incidents, costing $648,062 per incident. This year’s event will convene speakers from the DoD, DHS, IC, Federal Agencies, Industry, and Academia to discuss the current strategies and programs designed to mitigate the threats of today and examine the ways to prevent the threats of tomorrow.

Insider threats pose a complex and dynamic risk affecting both the public and private domains. In an increasingly active threat landscape, it is necessary that stakeholders and federal agencies are implementing and collaborating on the most effective practices in mitigating insider threats by accounting for new and increased stressors resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, correcting any flaws with remote work, strengthening cybersecurity and data infrastructure, and understanding the increased risk and reality of economic espionage. The 2022 Symposium will also feature a panel that will examine the intersection of insider threats and the financial services industry. Specifically, panelists will discuss the development of their respective insider threat programs, insider risks, and efforts in mitigating the threats of today to the critical financial industry. Speakers will highlight the issues in developing operational insider threat programs, the innovative technologies necessary to deter threats, and the significance of public-private partnerships in addressing the challenges faced by both sectors.
