- Spending on Aviation Will be Greater than $35 Billion for FY13: In the most recent 2013 Defense Budget Bill, over $35 Billion was slated for aircraft procurement alone. Billions more will be spent in support of these new and existing air asset platforms.
- Investment in Research, Development & Procurement for New Air Assets: The roughly $6 Billion between the Air Force and Navy for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter represents the largest investment in a single platform either air or ground for the FY13 budget cycle.
- Maintaining an Aging Fleet: In addition to new platform research, development and procurement, a significant amount of money will be spent to sustain and upgrade the existing platforms that are currently in use. The F/A 18 A-F Lifecycle Sustainment & System Capabilities Upgrades will equal $1.9 Billion.
