Past event: 7th Annual Counter-IEDs Conference

Preventing Skill Atrophy Post Afghanistan

Now more than ever we must prioritise the need to counter IEDs. The withdrawal from Afghanistan should not hide the continued threat posed by IEDs to both militaries and civilians worldwide. As we move towards a future where the unpredictability of the IED will only increase, we must act now to ensure that security and military personnel can uphold the hard earned capabilities developed over the past decade.

Our 7th annual Counter IEDs 2013 event will address the current challenges faced by military and security organisations in their attempt to counter the threat of IEDs. Addressing key questions such as "What does the withdrawal from Afghanistan mean for the counter IED capability of Coalition forces?", "How can we ensure capability levels are maintained by indigenous forces?", and "How can we transfer the lessons of Afghanistan to future theatres?", the event will deliver the most up-to-date insights into the most pressing issues currently facing C-IED professionals worldwide.

Highlights from our 2013 event include:

  • Hear from Commander Charles Henri-Rey Joint Ordnance Warfare Centre France about the wider threats escalating from theatres other than Afghanistan
  • Address the importance of training indigenous forces to uphold the capabilities to counter IEDs from the operational experiences of 11 EOD Regiment UK
  • Discuss the supporting role of forensic science with 2 Military Intelligence Battalion UK in combatting terrorist networks who produce and use IEDs across the globe
  • Recognise the future proliferation of IEDs and how the United Nations are prioritising the need to counter the IED threat
