Past event: Advanced Talent Management for Automotive Conference

The automotive industry is seen as one of the most competitive in the world. Despite that, nearly all auto executives are concerned about their talent pipeline and the ability of those potential employees to work on the modern manufacturing floor.

With senior employees reaching retirement age and young talent becoming harder to find, there is a looming skills shortage on the horizon. While companies in the automotive industry are doing their best to develop new talent, there is a prominent skills gap due to the fact that specialties needed today are ever-evolving. In addition to the skills shortage, there is a lack of cultivating and training leadership.

Due to the inability of the existing system to produce the right kind on employable people, the industry has been adopting various ''out of the box'' strategies: establishing partnering with colleges, setting up their own training centers, working with NGOs, other training partners to hire and retain properly trained people. Automotive companies are also working on establishing a proactive knowledge transfer and acquisition strategy that includes things like mentorships, and training programs that allow companies to invest in and shape leaders for the future of their businesses.

The ability of the automotive industry to grow and remain competitive in the next decade clearly would depend on the ability to skill, attract, and retain talent.
